Monticello, Sullivan County Seat, is equidistant between two big cities

MONTICELLO – Not everyone on the Sullivan County Legislature was in sync about approving construction of a county visitors’ center.

The measure passed on Thursday by a six to three vote.

Chairman Luis Alvarez cast one of those dissenting votes, not because he is opposed to the concept to greet the tourists flooding into the county.

“I wanted to see exactly what we were doing before we went with any other thing. No doubt that we need something for our visitors, but still I have to understand what they are doing,” he said.

Once a design has been approved, the new facility will be located in Rock Hill.
