MONTICELLO – A Monticello man was convicted in Sullivan County Court on Wednesday of conspiracy and two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, all as felonies.

Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell said Sean Lundy, 39, was found guilty after the jury deliberated for about two hours.

The jury found that Lundy conspired with several others to keep another co-conspirator in business as a major trafficker of the narcotic drug cocaine in Sullivan County between June 2017 and June 2018. The jury also convicted Lundy of possessing more than 49 grams of crack cocaine in his residence in Lake Huntington, with the intent to sell it, on June 8, 2018, when police executed a search warrant there and took him into custody on the conspiracy charges.

The jury heard evidence that was obtained from the use of a wiretap issued by Judge Michael McGuire into the members of the narcotics conspiracy.

The investigation was led by members of the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team and the Sullivan County District Attorney’s Office.

Sentencing was scheduled for December 18, 2019 and Lundy faces up to 8 1/3 to 25 years in state prison on the conspiracy conviction and a potentially consecutive sentence of up to nine years on his convictions for the cocaine possession.

“This defendant was part of a large conspiracy whose focus was distributing significant quantities of cocaine into our community,” said Farrell. “By its verdict, the trial jury recognized the scope and severity of the drug distribution network in which this defendant actively participated. I am grateful for the seriousness with which the jury approached this case, which lasted for over one week.”

Farrell said the “culmination of the Operation Checkmate investigation with the arrests of more than two dozen individuals reflects the hard work and diligence of all our local police agencies – the New York State Police, Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Fallsburg Police Department, Village of Monticello Police Department, Village of Liberty Police Department, and police and prosecutors of my Office – working together for the common good to root out those who traffic dangerous narcotics in our county.”

Chief Assistant District Attorney Meagan Galligan handled the trial and prosecution of this case for the District Attorney.
