Poughkeepsie man arrested on assault charge

POUGHKEEPSIE – A City of Poughkeepsie man was arrested by Poughkeepsie Town Police late Monday night following an assault that occurred in the parking lot of 59 Burnett Boulevard.

When police arrived on the scene around 11:16 p.m., they found a victim who said a man had struck him in the head with a metal object following a verbal argument.

The suspect, identified as Robert Shannon, 38, was located walking away from the scene and taken into custody. The metal object used in the assault, a tire pressure gauge, was located at the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Shannon was charged with felony assault, was arraigned and released to the probation department.
