NEWBURGH – The city manager’s proposed 2020 budget for Newburgh will be unveiled tonight and before any details have been released, employees are already fearful of cuts to personnel.

There is speculation among city workers that the police, fire and public works departments will all feel the pinch of layoffs.

The city has faced financial tough times for years and it was hoping to turn the corner with sales of vacant properties increasing and increased interest in redevelopment and new business.

The budget will be unveiled at this evening’s city council session at the recreation center on Washington Street. The session begins at 7 p.m.

The city council will have the final say as to what the 2020 budget looks like as it spends the next several weeks reviewing the manager’s proposal.
