UPDATE – Suspect arrested in New Windsor murder

NEW WINDSOR – Police in California arrested a suspect in the October 9 murder Deborah Waldinger in her South Gate Village Apartment in New Windsor.

On October 11, 2019 shortly before 10:00 pm, Luis Rondon, 48, of New Windsor was arrested in California.  Rondon left New York shortly after the murder.

Rondon is being charged with the murder in the second degree by the Town of New Windsor Police Department.  He is currently in California at the Kern County Sheriff’s Office Central Receiving Facility.  He is being held with no bail and an extradition hearing is being scheduled to return him to New York for prosecution.

The Town of New Windsor Police Department is the lead agency in this crime’s investigation.  Vital assistance has been provided by our law enforcement partners and they are: the New York State Police Major Crimes Unit & FIU, the FBI Safe Streets Task Force, the Orange County Crime Analysis Center, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, the Orange County District Attorney’s Office, The Kern County Sheriff’s Office (CA) and the City of Taft Police Department (CA).

No additional information is available for release at this time.  A news briefing scheduled for Monday is cancelled.
