NEW WINDSOR – Police are investigating a homicide at the South Gate Village Apartments on Vails Gate Heights Drive in New Windsor.

The body of Deborah Waldinger, 32, of New Windsor, was found when a maintenance worker entered an apartment at 8:21 a.m. on Wednesday.

It appears Waldinger died from blunt force trauma, but that will be confirmed by an autopsy, police said.

On September 21, Chelsea Debidin, 21, of Walden, was shot and killed while in a Knox Village, New Windsor apartment with her boyfriend. He was wounded.

Police Chief Robert Doss said the two cases are not believed to be linked and neither appears to have been random. New Windsor is a peaceful town, Doss said.

“This is not what New Windsor is; this is not what I will allow New Windsor to become,” the chief said. “New Windsor is a safe, family-friendly, tight knit community.”

Doss said police have identified persons of interest in the first murder.

New Windsor Police are working on both cases with the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and their Major Crimes Unit, along with their Forensic Investigations Unit, the FBI and their Safe Streets Task Force, the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
