TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – The proposed 2020 Poughkeepsie Town budget includes a tax levy decrease of $1 million from the 2019 spending plan with the budget coming in under the state tax cap.

The general fund portion of the total budget is $27 million while the total, including special districts, totals $49.36 million.

Town Supervisor Jay Baisley said there are no cuts in services or programs in his proposal.

That was accomplished, Baisley said, by “very conservative spending and multiple audits” with Central Hudson, cable TV and other areas where “we found missing money on those places,” in addition to internal audits to tighten up spending to come up with “a decent savings.”

The town tax rate will be reduced, in the budget, from 5.01 per thousand dollars to 4.85 per thousand.
