BARDONIA – Eastlyn Drive in Bardonia was dedicated this weekend in memory of FDNY Lt. Randy Wiebicke, who died from cancer as a result of his service at Ground Zero following the 9/11 attacks.

Wiebicke, who was 54 when he died on March 2, 2011, was born in New City and lived in Bardonia.

He was a New York City firefighter for 21 years before retiring in 2002.

Wiebicke loved spending time outdoors and boating, fishing and camping.

“I am so honored by this beautiful tribute for my husband, Randy,” said his widow, Madeline, who attended the street dedication on Saturday with her three children, Randy Wiebicke’s two sisters, three brothers and other relatives.

Clarkstown Town Supervisor George Hoehmann noted this was the fourth such street dedication in memory of town residents who served at Ground Zero, were later diagnosed or died as a result of a 9/11 related illness and cancer.

“Three years ago I was approached by several families who had lost loved ones as a result of 9/11 illness and asked if the town would consider remembering these folks who died as a result of their service,” Hoehmann said. “I am proud that Clarkstown has not forgotten our own who gave the ultimate sacrifice.”

Wiebicke’s family has lived in that area since 1905. His father served for over 30 years as chief of the Clarkstown Police Department.
