One-time fugitive guilty of murder

WHITE PLAINS – A former Yonkers man has been found guilty of murder in a bench trial before Westchester County Court Judge Anne Minihan.

Anthony Burton, 37, of Pensacola, Florida, was tried for the murder of a Yonkers man in April 2016.

For a time he was a fugitive from justice until he was captured at the Queen Mary Inn in Pensacola, where he was arrested on local charges including contributing to the delinquency of a minor, resisting arrest, false personation and possession of a controlled substance.

Around midnight on April 30, 2016, outside 111 Waverly Street in Yonkers, Burton pulled out a gun and opened fire hitting the victim three times. He remained in the hospital until his death on June 2, 2016.

Burton was arrested in Florida and returned to Westchester on November 28, 2018.
