WHITE PLAINS – The Hudson Gateway REALTOR® Foundation, the charitable arm of the Hudson Gateway Association of REALTORS®, recently presented a check for $2,500 to Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital in Valhalla, NY.

Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network, is the advanced care children’s hospital for New York’s Hudson Valley and Fairfield County, Connecticut. The hospital cares for the region’s most seriously ill and injured children, including those in need of open heart surgery, brain surgery, cancer treatments, organ transplants, trauma and burn care and advanced neonatal services. Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital is also a major academic institution and a research hub where tomorrow’s pediatric specialists and its most promising treatments are developed.

In 1995, Brenda and John Fareri lost their daughter, Maria, 13, to rabies.  During that time, Maria was hospitalized at Westchester Medical Center.  After Maria died, her parents learned that she had made a special wish as part of a school project – “for the health and well-being of all the children in the world.” With her spirit guiding them, her parents, family and other 20,000 members of our community have made this wish a reality.  It’s the only hospital in the nation named after a child.

The HG Realtor Foundation donation will be earmarked for the Cellular and Tissue Engineering Laboratory (CTEL) within the Children and Adolescent Cancer and Blood Disease Center at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital.  Just recently, the hospital was able to complete a new consolidated entrance to this center, courtesy of donations from the Westchester Warriors Youth Hockey program.
