Father and son farmers run over in tractor accident

CLAVERACK – A father and son were both listed in critical but stable condition at Albany Medical Center following a tractor accident on their farm at 301 Route 23B n Saturday afternoon.

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said Bernard Judkofsky, 86, was operating an International Harvester tractor that was towing a brush hog used to mow the fields when he turned it off, and got out of the cab. He started it back up while standing next to the vehicle, which was still in gear. The rear tire ran over him, injuring the farmer.

His son, Jay Judkofsky, 48, was also standing next to the tractor and the rear tire also ran over him, also causing injuries.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Greenport Police and Fire departments and Greenport Rescue.
