ALBANY – State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli’s latest report on municipal fiscal stress scores finds the City of Poughkeepsie and the County of Westchester added to the “significant stress” list.

The latest scores are based on financial information reported to DiNapoli’s office by local governments operating on a calendar year basis, with this report looking at 2018.

Poughkeepsie Mayor Robert Rolison said while the city is not completely out of the woods, it is making progress.

“There is certainly a lot more work to do but we have made significant progress. If you look at where the deficit was at one point – $13.2 million – that is down significantly” Rolison said. “We have had three years of budget surpluses, which have not been the case in many, many years where the deficit was increasing and now it is dropping. Also, too, our cash flow positions have improved so we have sufficient liquidity to meet our debts. Our debt service is dropping.”

Westchester County Executive George Latimer, in his first term, is also reducing the financial problems.

The Town of Clarkstown, City of Yonkers and Village of Maybrook are listed on the comptroller’s “Moderate Stress” list.

The Village of Catskill is on the “Susceptible to Fiscal Stress” list in DiNapoli’s report.
