GOSHEN – Orange County Executive Steven Neuhaus recognized Deerpark resident Floyd Babcock as September’s Citizen of the Month Award recipient for his continued commitment to the veterans community and support of initiatives that benefit them.

Babcock, 69, is a Vietnam veteran, who served in the U.S. Army for two years (1969-71).

“Floyd is a proud veteran and has worked tirelessly on behalf of our service members,” Neuhaus said. “He loves this country and will do anything for those he calls his brothers and sisters in arms. Floyd has been a tireless advocate for our service members and his passion for our veterans is to be commended. He often works behind the scenes and prefers to stay out of the limelight. I’m proud to give Mr. Babcock the recognition he deserves.”

Babcock played an integral role in the planning and creation of the Deerpark Veterans Memorial, which was erected at the Sparrowbush Fireman’s Park on Main Street two years ago. A retired carpenter, Babcock helped build the monument and takes great pride in maintaining it. The Memorial is dedicated to veterans who have served and provides residents with a place to reflect on the sacrifices veterans have made for this country.

Babcock, a 1968 Port Jervis graduate, has organized several veteran tributes and events at the monument. He is also proud to be the Service Officer for VFW Post 161 in Port Jervis.

“Floyd is an integral part of this community and certainly deserves to be recognized by County Executive Neuhaus,” said Orange County Legislature Tom Faggione, who represents Deerpark. “It’s been an honor having the opportunity to get to know Floyd. He is deeply proud of his service to this country and is always available to help any veteran in need. We all admire and appreciate his commitment to those who have served our country.”

Neuhaus introduced his Citizen of the Month Award, which acknowledges outstanding Orange County residents, in January of 2017.
