DUTCHESS JUNCTION – The brush fire that raged Friday evening atop Sugarloaf Mountain at Breakneck Ridge in Dutchess Junction was reduced to smoldering hotspots on Saturday.
Firefighters and forest rangers had retreated Friday night as flames continued to be seen from miles away.
On Saturday, helicopters dropped buckets of water on the burning brush and by afternoon, smoldering pockets remained visible.
The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation.
