ALBANY – Federal Homeland Security grant funding has been secured for local bomb squads in the counties of Westchester and Rockland.

Westchester will receive $318,180 and Rockland will receive $61,100.

The funding will help equip the FBI-accredited bomb squads to locate and prevent potential emergencies caused by improvised explosive devices or IEDs.

Just this week, the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called to the City of Newburgh when a suspicious package was found in the garage of 3 Washington Center, home of a Social Security Office and SUNY Orange classes.

The package was examined and found not to be dangerous. The investigation into who placed it there is continuing.
