WASHINGTON – A bill creating the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor Commemorative Coin has passed in the House of Representatives and will now go to the Senate for approval.

The measure, sponsored by Congressman Sean Patrick Malone (D, NY-18) calls for the coin to be struck at West Point Mint with proceeds of the sale going to the Purple Heart Hall of Honor in New Windsor.

“I’m really excited to be one giant step closer to producing this coin to honor Purple Heart veterans, bolster the important work of the Hall and the National Purple Heart Honor Mission, and support the mission of the West Point Mint,” Maloney said.

“Today is an historic day for America’s combat wounded and those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country,” said Richie Lay, a Purple Heart recipient and chairman of the Board of the National Purple Heart Honor Mission.

The bill authorizing the coin authorizes the US Treasury to mint $5 gold coins, $1 silver coins, and half-dollar clad coins at the West Point Mint for the 2021 year.

After production costs are recouped by the Treasury, proceeds from the sales of the coins will be directed to the National Purple Heart Hall of Honor, Inc.
