HAVERSTRAW – A crash between a school bus and a Toyota Prius at Quaker Road and the exit 13 ramp of the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Haverstraw sent the driver of the car to the hospital with a broken arm and leg.

State Police said the bus was traveling northeast making a left turn onto Quaker Road off the exit ramp at 7:22 a.m. on Tuesday when the driver failed to see the Prius. As a result, the car struck the bus causing heavy front end damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the Prius, Stephanie Musial, 37, of Beacon, sustained a compound fracture of her left arm and a broken left leg, chest and neck pain. She was bleeding heavily from the fracture and a State Police sergeant applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. She was transported to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla in serious but stable condition.

The driver of the bus, Chiacheng Wu, 66, of Bardonia, and an aide, Nedje Pierre-Louis, 31, of Spring Valley, sustained minor injuries and were transported to Montefiore Nyack Hospital. Five children on the bus were uninjured.

The investigation into the cause is continuing.
