Monticello man accused of firing shots at others across busy roadway

MONTICELLO – Police in Monticello have arrested a local man in connection with a June 25 incident in which he allegedly fired several shots at a group of individuals across the heavily traveled Forestburg Road (Route 42) in the village.

Police arrested Gerrod “Binko” Lucas, 23, of Monticello on Thursday, September 12 on charges of criminal possession of a firearm, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment. He was remanded to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $250,000 cash bail or $500,000 bond.

During the incident, Lucas possessed a silver colored handgun, which he fired toward several people during an altercation.

Lucas fled the scene and was observed on video surveillance passing the gun off to Daquan Staten, 18, of Monticello, who was arrested in connection with the incident on June 25.

During Staten’s arrest, he was found in possession of a loaded black .45 caliber handgun that had been reported stolen to Monticello Police on June 22 from an unlocked car.
