SAUGERTIES – A Woodstock man, who was a passenger in a car stopped at the intersection of Route 9W and Glasco Turnpike in Saugerties minutes before 2 a.m. on Friday, was arrested as a fugitive from justice wanted by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

The vehicle in which Aaron Chadwick, 30, was riding had been pulled over for a vehicle and traffic violation.

While Saugerties Police were confirming that the El Paso authorities wanted to extradite Chadwick, a 911 call came in from an individual reporting he had just been robbed and assaulted near Route 32 in Glasco.

The trouble is the call came from Chadwick’s phone. He later admitted he made the call in an attempt to avoid being arrested.

Police charged him with being a fugitive from justice and falsely reporting an incident.

Chadwick was remanded to the Ulster County Jail without bail.
