POUGHKEEPSIE – The Poughkeepsie City School District and City Hall are working hand in glove to improve the learning experience and quality of life for people of all ages within the city.

To that end, Mayor Robert Rolison is capitalizing on an idea from other communities by creating a children’s cabinet.

“A children’s cabinet is essentially a group of individuals that come together as one body to assist the school district in many, many levels,” the mayor said. It is government people at various levels, it is civic leaders, it is community partners, it is institutions of higher learning.”

The idea came from a recent Poughkeepsie Summit at Harvard University attended by Rolison, School Superintendent Dr. Eric Rosser and other officials. It was the inspiration of Robert Watson, an alumnus of Poughkeepsie High School.
