An HBO series being filmed in Poughkeepsie in 2019.

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Mt. Carmel section of the City of Poughkeepsie is going back in time for the filming of the upcoming HBO series “I Know This Much Is True,” starring Mark Ruffalo.

The intersection at the blinking light in Mt. Carmel has been covered in dirt and several storefronts have been decorated to resemble businesses in the early 1900s.

The HBO crews were spreading the dirt on the road surface Wednesday morning and putting the finishing touches on the set prior to filming.

Filming was scheduled to take place Wednesday afternoon and Thursday.

The area will be subject to periodic road closures until Friday evening at 8 p.m., according to the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department.  The tons of dirt are supposed to be removed entirely by that time.

The filming has been taking place at several locations throughout the Hudson Valley but is based primarily in the city where the main house is located on Delafield Street.

Mayor Rob Rolison has been happy for the city’s exposure. “This has given many people the opportunity to see our city and its rich history of beautiful neighborhoods.” Hotels, restaurants, and other local businesses have also benefited

from the filming.  At least two area hotels have been booked solid with cast and crew members since April while businesses like Poughkeepsie’s Gloede Neon Signs have been hired to provide crane service at a variety of locations.
