NEWBURGH – The Newburgh City Council is going to consider spending $98,000 to hire a company to review the structural integrity of some of its government buildings and recommend steps for the city to take going forward.

Mayor Torrance Harvey acknowledged problems at two of the primary city buildings.

“We know there are some structural issues with City Hall,” Harvey said. “We know that we need to come up with a master plan to either relocate or figure out what we are going to do with the existing building. The same thing for the public safety building so we are looking at different ideas on how to come up with concrete solutions moving forward for both buildings.”

Areas of City Hall are shored up with wooden beams as a precaution to prevent collapse and the public safety building is full of mold, poor ventilation and leaks.
