MIDDLETOWN – Hundreds of New York City Police officers were in Middletown Thursday to pay their respects to Officer Shane Sullivan, who died last Saturday when his personal vehicle crashed into a tree in the Bronx.

NYPD Officer Shane Sullivan of Middletown

Sullivan, 27, who was a member of the NYPD for three years, had just finished his shift in the 43rd Precinct at midnight on August 24 when, according to published reports, he went unconscious and suffered a possible heart attack. The New York City Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

As the Mass of Christian Burial was being held at St. Joseph’s R.C. Church in Middletown, a NYPD helicopter flew over Middletown.
