State health commissioner says measles cases declining

PORT JERVIS – Rockland County remains the one area in New York State outside New York City with the most measles cases recorded over the last year.

State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker, in Port Jervis on Wednesday, said the numbers are declining due to the hard work of local and state health officials.

“As of August 26, 2019, there were 394 confirmed cases of measles in New York State outside New York City and 57 of which are here in Orange County,” he said. “The department continues to work closely with the Orange County Department of Health and I thank them for their work to review measles cases, conduct active monitoring of all exposed individuals among the public as well as with help in the healthcare settings.”

As of August 28, there are 414 cases outside New York City with 312 in Rockland County, 57 in Orange, 18 in Westchester, 19 in Sullivan County and one in Greene County.
