MONTICELLO – National Association of Counties (NACo) President Mary Ann Borgeson has appointed Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Luis Alvarez to a one-year term as vice chairman of NACo’s Law Enforcement Subcommittee.
The Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee is responsible for NACo policy on all matters pertaining to criminal justice and public safety systems, including criminal justice planning, law enforcement, courts, corrections, homeland security, community crime prevention, juvenile justice and delinquency prevention, emergency management, fire prevention and control, and civil disturbances.
Alvarez, who represents the Liberty area, is a retired police officer, having served with the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.
He said being a part of the leadership of NACo will benefit the county. “The work they do has national ramifications, so this is an opportunity for Sullivan County to help set policy and learn valuable public safety and security lessons.”
