WASSAIC – In preparation for the Patterson Bridge replacement project, Metro-North Railroad crews will continue track-surfacing work on the Upper Harlem Line between Wassaic and Southeast on Tuesday, August 27 and Wednesday, August 28, adding stone to raise the existing the track so that it meets the profile of the new bridges.

Crews will also weld rail joints and operate a rail-inspection vehicle across the entire line. The railroad uses the high-tech equipment to detect defects and metal fatigue inside the steel rails, inspecting them with ultrasonic and induction tests and identifying issues before they become major problems, which means a safer, smoother ride and more reliable service.

To accommodate this infrastructure work, on Tuesday, August 27, and Wednesday, August 28, buses will substitute for select off-peak trains between Southeast and Wassaic on the Harlem Line. Southbound buses will operate 20-40 minutes earlier than scheduled trains.

  • From 9:47 a.m. to 3:41 p.m., buses will substitute for trains from Wassaic to Southeast, making all scheduled stops at the following stations: Tenmile River, Dover Plains, Harlem Valley-Wingdale, Pawling and Patterson.
  • Bus service will operate 20 – 40 minutes earlier than normally scheduled train times. Buses will connect with regularly scheduled trains at Southeast for continuing service to Grand Central Terminal.

  • From 7:43 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., buses will substitute for trains from Southeast to Wassaic, making all scheduled stops at the following stations: Patterson, Pawling, Harlem Valley-Wingdale, Dover Plains, Tenmile River and Wassaic.
