The Young Colonials perform

PATTERSON – Participants ranged in age from eight to 80 when 14 fife and drum corps from throughout the northeast converged on Patterson Fire Department headquarters Saturday for the Young Colonials 32nd Annual Muster.

The sounds of music were heard throughout the hamlet as corps after corps marched onto the parade field before conducting individual performances for the appreciative audience.

“Friendship through Music” was the theme of this year’s muster.

The Young Colonials was created in 1973 and for the past 46 years has been introducing youngsters aged eight to 18 about America’s history through music.

Members not only learn to how march but to play the fife, snare or bass drum taught by award winning musicians including past members of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point’s Hellcats.

Each year the Young Colonials participate in some three dozen parades, competitions and musters.
