Catskill man charged with passing funny money

SAUGERTIES – A Catskill man was arrested by Saugerties Police and charged with passing a counterfeit $100 bill.

The investigation began as a bill was passed at 8:30 in the morning on August 8 at the Advance Auto store at 330 Route 212 in Saugerties. Michael Fay, 36, of Catskill was identified as the man who used the phony money to purchase merchandise at the store.

At 11 p.m. on August 21, Saugerties Police responded to a motor vehicle crash on West Bridge Street in the Village of Saugerties and while investigating that, the driver was identified as Fay, who police were looking for in connection with the passing of the counterfeit bill.

He was taken into custody and charged with felony criminal possession of a forged instrument and misdemeanor petit larceny. Fay was released on an appearance ticket returnable to town court at a later date.
