STEWART AIRPORT – Beautiful weather with mostly clear blue skies greeting the first day of the New York International Air Show at New York Stewart International Airport near Newburgh on Saturday. (Check out full photo library by Amanda Chanowsky)

Thousands purchased tickets to see the static displays of airplanes and watch the aerial maneuvers from inside the airport while thousands of other parked their cars in nearby parking lots to watch the action in the skies as the US Navy Blue Angels, the Air Force F-35 Lightning Demo Team and the Royal Air Force Red Arrows from England flew in formations. The Red Arrows thanked the US for its hospitality with red, white and blue trails.

The F35 provided a short ear-drum busting solo run, where it broke the sound barrier, as well during a patriotic duet with a WWII era P51 in what was dubbed a ‘heritage flight.’

Attendees came from near and far, to enjoy the spectacle. Kelly Cahill Fedrizz, a mother of an Air Force serviceman and resident of Otisville, watched the show. “I was here last year with my son Travis while he was sworn into the Air Force on the tarmac, so this show is really special to us,” she said.

The annual air show continues today with another aerial show and ground displays along the flight line.
