MONTICELLO – The Monticello Health Center of Planned Parenthood Mid-Hudson Valley has been granted $13,000 to help advance women’s health in Sullivan County, which remains one of the worst counties in the state for health outcomes.

The funding, secured by State Senator Jennifer Metzger (D, Rosendale), is included in the 2019-20 budget.

Last year, the Monticello Health Center served 1,265 patients, 65 percent of whom are at or below the poverty level.

Metzger announced the grant in Monticello on Thursday noting the grant is “against the backdrop of very bad news for women’s health.” She said the Trump administration “has essentially forced Planned Parenthood to withdraw from a nearly 50-year-old program that serves millions of mostly young, uninsured and underinsured people from across the country, with the aim of preventing women from considering a reproductive health option that is both safe and legal.”

She said she will “continue to stand with Planned Parenthood and the millions of women that are put at risk and denied their rights by this administration.”
