HIGHLAND – A man and woman were arrested early Wednesday morning following a traffic stop on Route 9W in Highland.
The driver, Evelisse Ramirez, 21, of Poughkeepsie, was charged with the felonies of criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a weapon for having a billy club and methamphetamine. She was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. She was sent to the Ulster County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $75,000 bond.
Her passenger, Asonte Russ, 30, of Kingston, was also arrested. He was charged with the felonies criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer, two counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal impersonation, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. When the car was stopped by police, Russ attempted to flee on foot and during a foot pursuit he pulled a loaded firearm. He was also found in possession of cocaine and had an active State Parole violation warrant. He was sent to the county jail without bail.
