CROTON-ON-HUDSON – Water testing in two locations on the Croton River in Croton-on-Hudson have found levels of fecal coliform exceed the acceptable range for swimming.

The tests were conducted on August 16 near Mayo’s Landing and the Unique Area.

The village said signage will be posted at Mayo’s Landing with the information and have shared the sample results with the state Department of Environmental Conservation so that signage could be posted at the Unique Area. The Westchester County Department of Health was also alerted.

Westchester County is responsible for sampling the water quality at Silver Lake Beach on a weekly basis throughout the duration of the season and there has been no evidence of bacteria in the water at Silver Lake, village officials said.

They said one sample is not a definitive result.  There could be a variety of reasons why this sample was high.  The village intends to continue to take samples from Mayo’s Landing and will share these results with the public as they become available.
