MILLBROOK – The state has provided the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in Millbrook $100,000 to support research into Lyme disease prevention.

The Tick Project worked with State Senator Jenifer Metzger (D, Rosendale) to secure the funding as part of the state budget. The money is in addition to $250,000 the freshman lawmaker secured weeks before to fight tick-borne diseases.

“Lyme is the fastest growing vector-borne disease in the United States and accounts for more than 80 percent of tick-borne diseases,” said Metzger.

The Tick Project began in 2016 and is set to conclude next year to test the efficacy of neighborhood-based prevention measures in 24 neighborhoods in Dutchess County.
