Bicyclist struck and killed in Town of Poughkeepsie

TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – Police in the Town of Poughkeepsie are seeking witnesses to an accident that left a bicyclist dead on Vassar Road Monday evening.

The accident occurred on Vassar Road near Dimpy’s Food Mart, at approximately 6:35 p.m. on August 12.

Lieutenant Michael O’Dowd says that a 63-year-old Poughkeepsie woman, driving a Honda, struck and killed a 41-year-old man who was riding a motorized bicycle.  The deceased was also a resident of Poughkeepsie.  He was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Traffic Enforcement Unit led to a portion of Vassar Road being closed for about six hours on Tuesday.

Town of Poughkeepsie Police were assisted at the scene by the Arlington Fire Department, Mobile Life Support Services, and State Police.
