NEW CITY – A Garnerville man was sentenced to 16 years in state prison and 20 years of post-release supervision on his May guilty plea to felony criminal sexual act.

Blair Bretton, 43, was arrested for the repeated sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13 during a nine-month period beginning in July 2018. All of the incidents occurred in Spring Valley with the case investigated by village police with the assistance of the Special Victims Unit of the Rockland County District Attorney’s Office.

“The sentenced meted out by the court is more than justified, as it is necessary to protect the community from this individual who has admitted to being a sexual predator,” said Acting District Attorney Kevin Gilleece. “There is no room in a civilized society for criminals such as this defendant.”

When released from prison, Bretton will be required to register as a sex offender.
