NEW CITY – The Clarkstown Police Department is investigating several calls of high-end vehicle thefts and attempted larcenies in the New City area on August 6 at about 3 a.m.

Patrol officers observed a dark colored Maserati sedan on Strawtown Road matching the description of a suspect vehicle. The Maserati struck the police car in attempt to flee. Both male suspects ran off on foot and were picked up by an awaiting white Porsche Cayenne SUV.

Clarkstown Police units pursued onto the northbound Thruway but ended their chase.

Police are currently investigating two stolen vehicles and the attempt of another from the New City area and they said there may be a connection to other stolen vehicles from the same area.

Anyone with video systems is asked to review theirs from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on August 6 and contact Clarkstown Police at 845-639-5800 if that video reveals anything suspicious.

Those incidents are crimes of opportunity and police advise people to remove valuables from view in their cars and make sure the doors are locked.
