NORTHEAST DUTCHESS – A new grant-making program that aims to increase financial self-sufficiency among immigrants in northeastern Dutchess County has been announced by Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation.

The grants will also seek to strengthen the nonprofit infrastructure that supports the area’s growing immigrant community.

Non-profits, municipalities and community organizations may apply for a portion of the $35,000 total, said Betsy Maury, a community engagement officer with the community foundation.

“It could be a variety of different kinds of programs depending upon where the nonprofit works whether it’s in arts and culture, health and human service, education; so there is a broad range of activity that a non-profit could apply for the grant program,” Maury said.

Organizations in Amenia, Clinton Corners, Dover, Millbrook, North East, Pine Plains, Stanford, Washington, Wassaic and Wingdale are eligible.

The deadline for applications is September 6.
