POUGHKEEPSIE – Vassar Brothers Medical Center has been named a verified Level 2 trauma center by the American College of Surgeons.

The three-year verification identifies hospitals equipped with key resources to treat critically injured patients at the highest level of care. This includes 24/7 access to board-certified trauma surgeons, anesthesia and radiology services, emergency services support and more.

“This verification confirms our ability to offer critical care services right in our community to patients with significant and traumatic injuries,” said Dr. Fausto Vinces, medical director of the hospital’s trauma department. “Our teams achieved this distinction by meeting the rigorous criteria the American College of Surgeons’ Committee of Trauma requires from hospitals seeking verification.”

To become verified, a team of experienced trauma assessors conducted an on-site review of Vassar Brothers in June. The assessors found the medical center’s trauma center met the stringent criteria outlined by the American College of Surgeons and demonstrated the ability to address the trauma needs of all injured patients.

The medical center’s verified status was approved by the Verification Review Committee panel of the Committee on Trauma of the American College of Surgeons.
