Thruway police chase ends with suspect vehicle crashing into three others

TOWN OF NEWBURGH – A police pursuit that started on the Thruway in the Town of Newburgh ended with a crash into three other vehicles on Route 17K in the town. Four people in the suspect vehicle were injured.

State Police said that 10:54 a.m. on Thursday they attempted to stop a Chevrolet Tahoe on the Thruway near the Newburgh exit based on an all-points bulletin for a suspect vehicle in which a person or persons were wanted for questioning regarding a felony investigation.

The SUV failed to comply and a pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle left the Thruway at exit 17 and continued on until it struck another Chevrolet Tahoe head-on and two other passenger vehicles on Route 17K in the Town of Newburgh at about 11:09 a.m.

Four people in the suspect vehicle were injured, one of whom was transported for non-life-threatening injuries to Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital. Two were transported for non-life-threatening injuries to Westchester Medical Center, and a fourth individual was airlifted to Westchester with serious injuries.

The civilian injuries were non-life-threatening.

Troop F State Police BCI and Collision Reconstruction Unit assisted at the scene.
