Violent storm knocks out power in Dutchess, Ulster counties

POUGHKEEPSIE – A violent rain and wind storm rolled through northern Dutchess County and central Ulster County late Monday afternoon with pockets of damage caused by the strong winds that toppled trees and limbs.

Portions of Hyde Park were among the hardest hit areas.

The storm caused service interruptions to about 8,800 customers, primarily in Dutchess and Ulster counties, Central Hudson Gas and Electric spokesman John Maserjian said. Power was restored during the day on Tuesday.
