MIDDLETOWN – The fight against drug abuse in Orange County has just gotten more in your face. District Attorney David Hoovler has booked space on a half-dozen billboards to extend a helping hand for those in need.

The DA said they have a message of education as well as offering to assist persons wanted to beat the habit.

“It’s part of a public service announcement to make people aware of a phone number that people can call for help,” Hoovler said. “It’s one point of service that puts them through a family navigator system by answering a series of questions from the call-taker, they can direct the family or individual that needs help to the appropriate point of contact or the appropriate agency that can help them.”.

The phone number to call for assistance is 800-832-1200.

The program is in collaboration with the Mental Health Association in Orange County and the county Department of Social Services.

Billboards are in Middletown, Pine Bush, Otisville, Wallkill and Montgomery.
