PEARL RIVER – As we reach the mid-90s again today, Orange and Rockland Utilities set a new third-place in the all-time record books for electric demand on a Saturday with a peak demand of 1,403 megawatts at 6 p.m.

The highest Saturday electric demand day was August 13, 2016 with 1,412 megawatts of demand. The all-time highest demand day in O&R history was August 2, 2006 when the company reached 1,617 megawatts of demand on its electricity system.

The tropical heat and high humidity are driving exceptionally heavy air conditioning use and its accompanying high electricity demand.

Since noon on Friday, some 900 customers experienced a heat-related electric outage. Crews have restored that service.
