Former summer camp leader arrested for soliciting naked pictures from teenage boy

WURTSBORO – State Police arrested a Mamakating man on charges of disseminating indecent material to a minor as a felony and endangering the welfare of a child and coercion, both as misdemeanors.

An investigation determined that Leonard Durante, 35, who was formerly employed as an assistant director of the summer camp, Camp Lakota in Wurtsboro, was corresponding via Snap Chat with a 16-year-old male counselor from the camp. He solicited naked pictures from the victim and requested to see the victim naked in person.

Durante was sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.

The investigation is continuing and anyone who had similar interactions or who know of similar acts involving Durante is asked to call the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 845-344-5300.
