Mount Vernon man sentenced for beating death of two-year-old, brutal assault of twin sister

WHITE –PLAINS – a Mount Vernon man was sentenced by Westchester County Court Judge Anne Minihan to 25 years to life in prison for the beating death of Addison Turner, two, and the brutal assault of her twin sister, Annalynn, in the summer of 2017.

Morris

Derran Morris, 25, was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison on his conviction to murder and manslaughter charges in the death of Addison. He was also sentenced to 23 years on two assault counts in connection with Annalynn’s injuries. Both sentences are to run concurrently.

Both children were severely beaten with Addison’s cause of death determined to be multiple bruises, trauma and an extremely deep laceration to her liver, causing immediate and extensive blood loss and the manner of death was homicide.

Annalynn suffered from lacerations to the liver and survived after weeks in the hospital.

The investigation found Morris had been alone with the children for several hours when the beating occurred. The children’s mother, Monique Turner, the children and Morris lived together.
