State Police arrest man for hacking internet account, posting picture

HAWTHORNE – A Hartsdale man was arrested by police on charges that he hacked into a victim’s online account and posted an inappropriate photo without the victim’s permission.

The State Police Campus Sexual Assault Victims Unit and State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Hawthorne charged John Mahoney, 65, with criminal tampering and computer trespass, both felonies, and a misdemeanor of aggravated harassment.

His arrest culminated an 11-month investigation.

Mahoney was arraigned and remanded to the Westchester County Jail on $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.

The Westchester County District Attorney’s Office High Technology Crime Unit assisted in the case.
