Long-time Orange airport manager Fritz Kass dies

NEW WINDSOR – Frederick “Fritz” Kass, a long-time manager of the Orange County Airport in Montgomery, died on Saturday. He was 76.

Kass ran the county airport for many years, retiring in 2006. He is credited with developing the facility into a modern county airport.

He remained active in the airport and aviation industry attending many Stewart Airport Commission meetings and providing updates on aviation issues and pertinent legislation on the state and federal levels.

Hass’ son, Sam, said, “Although this past year was a tough year for him health-wise, he was always optimistic and thought he was going to lick this thing.”

Funeral arrangements will be announced shortly.
