LAKE CARMEL – On a glorious summer’s afternoon, scores of area residents flocked to Lake Carmel Saturday for the community’s annual summer festival.

For the first time in years, the lake was crystal clear allowing for children of all ages to swim and romp in the water under the watchful eye of lifeguards.

Deputy Supervisor and Councilman William Huestis beamed with pride when observing the community enjoying itself. “Small town America in the Town of Kent!”

Lifelong Putnam resident Walter Recher agreed. “This is so great seeing so many of our residents recreating out-of-doors instead of watching television or playing with their phones, tablets and computers.”

Recher also thanked the weatherman for his cooperation.

In addition to the water activities, Kent Police displayed their safety exhibit, a deejay played popular songs and an arts and crafts booth was available for residents to become creative.
