Homeless man sentenced to 20 years to life for murder

WHITE PLAINS – A homeless man from New Rochelle was sentenced was sentenced by Westchester County Supreme Court Judge Barry Warhit to 20 years to life in prison for killing a woman one year ago.

Jose Olmos, 29, pled guilty in May to murder for brutally killing Nurten Seljuk, 66, on Friday, July 27, 2018. She also did not have a permanent address.

Olmos had stalked the victim in the early morning hours as she pulled a piece of luggage in the area of Main Street in New Rochelle, to the abandoned naval army building. Police were able to trace Olmos’ step by reviewing surveillance videos.

Sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., Olmos murdered Seljuk near 270 Main Street. She died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries and asphyxiation. Her body was found early Friday morning in the driveway of the armory grounds.

New Rochelle Police arrested Olmos the following day.
