State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, center, serves lunch at the Family Partnership Center

POUGHKEEPSIE – The State Assembly’s leader, Speaker Carl Heastie, was in Poughkeepsie Thursday to meet with Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson and tour the Family Partnership Center run by Family Services Inc.

The visit to the Queen City was part of Heastie’s annual statewide tour of communities.

Family Services President Brian Doyle gave the lawmakers a tour of the new Hamilton Street facility while subtly making a plea for additional state funding.      Doyle pointed out several of the programs run by Family Services at the Partnership and also noted that several non-profit agencies also have offices on site. “This center is the center of this community which also is the epicenter of poverty in this community. So to the extent that we can continue to provide services is critical,” Doyle told the two lawmakers.

Heastie didn’t hide his enthusiasm for what he called a “One-stop shop that does a variety of needed services for the community – It’s very eye-opening.”     Jacobson said Heastie is always listening to the members and his Poughkeepsie visit was to ensure that state funds were being used for the specific purposes.

Jacobson said after the tour that funding granted to Family Services was “certainly being used appropriately.”
