First responders relax after the missing hiker is located

CLARYVILLE – A 16-year-old who went missing from a summer camp in Swan Lake late Sunday night was found safe and sound Monday morning.

The youth, from Camp Yagilu on the border of Sullivan and Ulster counties, was reported missing around 11 p.m.

Volunteer firefighters from Grahamsville, Denning, and Claryville combed the woods for the lost hiker. State forest rangers coordinated the search effort. Also at the scene were the Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, Claryville EMS, State Police Aviation and Sullivan County Emergency Management.

A few hours after the search began, Catskill Hatzolah was also called in to search for the boy and around 7:30 Monday morning he was located, examined by Hatzolah EMS staff and found in good health.
